I’ll be at campsite 68 Friday and Saturday night as previously stated by Jay in an earlier post on this thread. All firewood is various flavors of hardwood, mostly Ash which is aged a couple years. Most of it was dead on the vine longer than that. No green wood or junk softwoods. And while a 6×10 dump trailer full of it might be overkill for June… i figure firewood for a party is like mashed potatoes at Thanksgiving.. no such thing as making too much. If we want to have some form of Burning Man… we can do it. Trailer will be covered to keep it dry in the event of any rain.

Alright.. glad to be in the forums. Heading over to find out about getting a Badge! And maybe a homemade Tshirt. haha.

@Arturo Alcantar – WRKY284, Which nights are you staying on those 2 camp spots?

I have updated my notes but I’m still keeping track of all numbers due to COVID restrictions. Once I have that answer I’ll post an update on here with who’s coming.

@JB, thanks again for bringing wood! This will be very helpful! 🙂

    Thanks!

Update: I talked to Dave – WRKF682, and he is going to bring his flat top propane grill and we are working on some tasty ideas for an even better late lunch/early dinner on Saturday. At this point we do not need anyone to bring any extra grills to the group area (outside of what you want for your camp site of course). If/when the group going gets bigger I will reach out and see who else could volunteer another grill.

    Thanks!

A quick update and a *BIG HUGE* thanks to Dave – WRKF682 for meeting me out at Lake Shabbona on Monday to do a little RF testing. A few observations we have determined while we were out there:

    — This park is HUGE so simplex is fine around the camp site or at the main group but with all the trees a 5W HT will struggle and we tested it with limited success.
    — Rugged 575 (unlinked) and Grundy 700 (linked) both cover the entire park no issues on mobile radios but depending on where you are at on an HT, it’s hit or miss due to the terrain and trees! For example, HT’s work loud and clear on both repeaters near the water and at the group spot but hit/miss in the deeper loop camping spots.
    — As such, I will be bringing a full duty, non-linked commercial repeater system with. I’ve been itching to install one with a massive collapsible mast on my truck for a while now anyways so this is a good excuse to finally put that together! It’ll be run from the rugged truck and will be a full 50 watts on GMRS channel 16 – 462.575 with a commercial Andrews dipole antenna. The tone for this repeater for the duration of this event will be the traveler tone of 141.3. I hope this is enough time for everyone to get their radios programmed!! This repeater will be great for use all around the park and then some and will be on for the duration of the trip! Feel free to share the tone with any and all valid GMRS users. As it will only be about 30 feet tall and temporary the coverage will be only about 5 miles anyways!

    Thanks!

I live about ~35 miles from the campground. I plan on stopping by Saturday and Sunday morning/afternoon and hang out. I have a Midland MXT400, the Midland software, and data cable. I’m bringing my laptop so anyone who owns a MXT400 can program their radio. The software will only work on the MXT400 model.

    See everyone soon.

    Thanks Brian,

Below is a paste/update with you added. I know Jay is coming but are any other repeater owners coming? I know Corey mentioned he’s coming but I don’t have any other details for anyone else? Buddy, Scott, Eddie, Vince, Anyone else?

    Thanks!

Down to the last week before the Meet n Greet and i hope everyone is getting fired up for it.

My original plan was to spend Saturday night at the campground. However with the storms forecast for the coming week, my tournament at the golf club will most likely get pushed off an extra day for weather delays. This means ol grass farmer JB will not be able to make the trip. Obviously forecasts are generally iffy at best, but with every single day predicting the same storms, i would say the outlook is bleak.

I wanted to make sure and let everyone know that you might have to fend for yourselves with the firewood. Even a half day weather delay for this particular member-guest event will be enough to throw my schedule into complete chaos. Best gather a few logs and bring them along. If the weather holds, i’ll be up Friday or Saturday afternoon.

Hey Rob, sorry for the late reply. I’ve been out of town for the last 2.5 weeks and now catching up with everything. Me and my buddy Matt will be pulling in on Saturday and taking over Erik’s spot 129 for the evening.

    Okay,

Quick update here. At this point we have about 21 people. SO, planning for 25 people at this point if others show up without RSVPing.

I am going shopping today/tomorrow to get burgers, brats and hot dogs. Dave (WRKF682) is bringing his specialty as well! 😊 If anyone wants to bring anything, as I said before please bring a side dish, snacks or deserts!

The mobile repeater will be brought with and installed at about 40 feet all things willing and it’ll have a DB404 antenna on it running at the full 50W output. As mentioned, the tone will be 141.3 – traveler tone. 462.575 +5 (Channel 16)

Sometimes you get lucky…. This is one of those times with the mobile repeater I’ll be putting in Friday evening at my camp site… This coverage is insane at only 40 feet…. All things considered including crappy LMR400 line loss and duplexer loss… Andrews DB404 antenna… 867 feet above sea level sure helps… MAN ALIVE!! http://rugged575.com/shabbona_portable/RM8DF2931D7ACC_0_.html

With that being said we should have fantastic on-prem local repeater coverage!

Here is an updated attendee list:
